On Sunday May 11 2014 I successfully completed the Moonwalk in London with my team ‘Sole Sister with Blisters’ -my daughter Sophie, my sister Jane and my friends Kicki and Ann from Stockholm in Sweden. We started the Moonwalk along with 15, 000 other women, leaving from Clapham Common and walking the marathon distance of 26.2 miles through the streets of London in the middle of the night. It was a really tough challenge made worse by wind and rain but as you can see in the photo, we crossed the finishing line early the next morning, exhausted but very proud of our achievement!
The Moonwalk raises money for the Breast Cancer Charities supported by the “Walk the Walk” Charity and I personally raised over £700. I followed a 16 week programme of training before the epic walk which included walking four times each week and gradually increasing the walking distance from 2 to 20 miles. Weekly one-to-one Pilates classes with Karen Coupland helped my training tremendously- Karen taught me how to stretch and mobilise before and after walking which increased my muscle strength and flexibility and kept lower back pain at bay. Karen’s enthusiasm and encouragement also helped to keep me motivated to follow my training plan.
