What Is Pilates
Often referred to as the “intelligent workout” Joseph Pilates preached the benefits of “A perfect balance of body and mind”. The movements enable you to discipline the muscles of the body by strengthening the deeper core stabilising muscles which are responsible for protecting the spine and other joints of the body. Theses muscles give the body a safe and protected postural alignment in all day to day activities.
Pilates movements enable you to learn to focus on your mind and body which follow the eight principles of Pilates: Concentration, Breathing, Centering, Control, Precision, Flowing Movements, Isolation and Routine.
Pilates will give you the ability to find the correct balance of stabilising and mobilising muscles. Quite often the wrong muscles are selected whilst carrying out everyday tasks.
Through the course of a typical block of 6 weeks you will notice that your mind and body have an improved awareness of which muscles they need to be selecting.
Congratulations! You are now having your own conversation with your muscles and they are responding!
